July 8
What a way to start off July by spending a warm Sunday afternoon at
Fairbanks Park in Terre Haute, IN at the Cars & Country Cruise In and
Car Show and concert by Stephen Cochran presented by WTHI 99
Country Radio. With the 3 Divisional races coming up, this was a good
time to take some time away from the track and spend promoting my
great sponsors at the car show. With hundreds of people in attendance,
my day included signing hero cards and explaining the workings of our
race car. We entered our car in the 'I Can't Believe You Drove This Here!'
class and after it was all over, we finished in 2nd place only to be beaten
by a Schwin bicycle brought in by Chris Conner. We had a lot of fun
interacting with the people and most importantly, part of the proceeds
went to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

July 13-15
The temps were hot but my driving wasn't! As always in July, St.Louis
had temperatures in the middle 90's which is taxing on the cars, track,
tuners, and drivers. We started off with a good run of a 8.907 on the 8.900
index but couldn't find it after that and exited in the 1st round on Sunday
morning. I guess after our win at Coles, we went from hero to zero in 8.9
seconds. Next week, we head to Indy for the next divisional race and
plan on testing on Thursday. Hope to see you there.

July 19-22
Testing pays off. The Thursday before the Division 3 points race at the
O'Reily Raceway Park in Indianapolis, I tested different throttle stop
combinations to see what effects they would make. With gloomy skies
and a threat of rain, we were able to make enough runs to get some
good data. Friday morning, we woke up to clear skies and cool temps,
I didn't know if this was July or September. As the weekend
progressed, the Lang's Body Shop & Painting, Davison's Service &
Equipment, Garzolini Crow's Hybrid, APT Powdercoat, Mean Machine
Dragster made it to the 4th round of competition. The track was fast
causing breakout runs but my reaction times prevailed. Next week,
were off to Columbus, OH, so I've got to get busy see you next week.
July 27-29
The farmers love when the NHRA returns to Columbus. Rain or the
threat of rain was the forecast for most of the weekend. As it turned
out, Fridays session of Super Comp was rained out and pushed into
Saturday. On Saturday, we managed to get our 2 qualifiers in with lots
of success. Our first run was a 8.908 and our 2nd was a 8.916, burning
the tree down both times. We ran our 1st round on Sunday with little
success, I left the line first with a .011 reaction time to my opponents
.018 but at the finish line, he prevailed running an 8.928 to my 8.944.
The finish line margin was .009 of a second. Next weekend we're not
racing to go to a family reunion and to regroup. After that we're
heading back to Coles County Dragway to do a little bracket racing
before heading to Bowling Green, KY for the final Div. 3 points race
and the US Nationals in Indy.
May your reaction times be quick and your dial In's close, unless
you're next to me. Hope to see you soon.
